Virginia is for lovers!
I enjoyed living near NYC this summer and working 24/7.  Mike and I went to NYC area to work some temp/contract attorney jobs.  They worked fabulously in our favor! I applied for a LL.M. program at George Washington University Law School which has a great program in Intellectual Property law. I was accepted and then in a whirlwind I moved to the D.C. metro area.  I actually live in Northren Virginia.  There is so much to explore here!  I will eventually post some shots of sightseeing in D.C..  Mike, My brother and I did some sights the day after moving all the furniture and stuff in but we didn't take any pictures.

2008-2009 is going to be lots of fun!

Mike and I are exciting to be taking this next phase of our lives on together.  We are planning our wedding on March 15, 2009!

We are going to have an intimate, and laid back wedding.  On our wedding day we will have been engaged for two years and together for 4 years.  We met in March in 2005.  We got engaged in March 2007.  Now we are waiting for the big day. We do wish we could afford to invite more people but it does not seem fiscally responsible for us to ever consider a big wedding since we both have tons of loans from school.  Also I am in school now and not working.  It also wouldn't be fair to invite people to come from far away and only offer a small reception.

Also the excitement for this year is that I am studying patent law at GWU and looking for some patent/IP jobs.   I am doing a second interview on an interesting internship related to lobbying in IP for this semester.  Hopefully that will work out!  I really would like an internship with the one of a few courthouse here but I will have to really work for that.  I plan to take the patent bar this year or early next.  I am hoping there will be a patent review course in D.C. this December.

Mike is a barred attorney in the State of North Carolina, like I am and he just applied to be barred in D.C..  He is starting a contract attorney job this upcoming week but is also applying for permanent jobs in D.C..  I hope he gets one he really likes!

So we will keep you posted on our adventures in Va and D.C.

2008

Just the other week Mike and I came back up to L.I. to so some document review work.  We are  excited to tell everyone that Mike passed the bar exam and so we are now both attornies.  We have alot of big dreams and right now we are just starting to work on them.  We plan to get married in the begining of 2009 if the money is there and also want to buy a house as soon as we know where we want to stay.

Right now I am applying to some L.L.M. Programs for a one year emphasis in intellectual property law and also hoping to pass the patent bar sometime this year or the following if I end up in a masters of law program.  I am following my dream to get a patent or IP lawyer job which will use my undergraduate degree in chemistry.  Ultimately I just want to do somthing I love.

Mike would like to do criminal defense or work as a legal aid.  He can work pretty much anywhere because that work is everywhere but my field is a bit more selective.  So we also came to NY for the patent law courses given here and the opportunties.  The other city we are looking at right now is D.C..

We have made alot of big changes moving from NC back to NY to pursue them and maybe it seems like a risk. I am also happy that Mike will get to meet some more of my family.  Next week we already have plans to see some extended family that I haven't had the chance to see in awhile, and I am very excited.  Alot of my family is near NYC area!  Mike is not exactally looking forward to not knowing anyone but it had to happen some time.

We may eventually move back to NC and love the area.  My brother and parents are there and so are his.  So we can always go there if everything doesn't work out perfectly.  Right now we felt it was best to pursue some of our dreams before we have roots that don't allow us to travel.

Taking in life one breath at a time, one step at a time.
Hey friends. The year has been starting out well and I hope everyone had a happy new year and a great year to come.

James I am sorry I haven't been providing any interesting reading on my life, but I miss you!

As I posted before in december I started my new job.  That is going really well.  Everyone is so nice and friendly.  I am starting to get more work and I know I will slowly be bombarded with more and more but they are kindly giving me the chance to accept that fact.  I am learning all about medation i.e. the art of negotiation.  I am also slowly turning into a defense attorney even though I am way more liberal then alot of the other attorneys I met. I am meeting alot of northreners and NYers down here.  One of the mediators we used in a case this last week was from Brooklyn and we were chatting about catching shows. Sigh.

Other good news I moved this January.  I am no longer at the old condo I posted pictures of awhile ago but a little house.  I am renting with the option to buy in a year.  Right now I am working on getting everything set up the way I want it.  The process has been loads of stress but I am past half way.  I wish I had all the pretty pictures to show the new house I am renting.  I will post some soon. I posted some of the house empty before I moved in, on myspace.  I will post the pictures of the house with my stuff in it after it is decent.

It is a three bedroom with 1.5 baths, a back yard and a nice living room with fireplace and higher ceilings.  I bought a kitchen table and I can finally invite guests over for dinner.  I also bought a sectional for the living room which I am waiting for.  After I get that I may get some endtables or bookshelf but otherwise I am good for awhile.  Anyway I am gonna have a guest bedroom, an office, and a master bath.  It is small but a great starter home, so there is the good potential I may buy at the end of the year, but who knows.

The only bad news I have is I lsot my cell phone so I need everyone to send me there new numbers if you want me to ever call.  Love ya!!

Betting on Briefcases

I will just start with the good news.  I got my first job offer and I have accepted it. Here is the web site http://www.ordlawfirm.com/ Though let me say the web site is not very impressive.  I will probably start Dec 1 but maybe Jan 1.  I finally gets some benefits and they even include dental. Yippee! I can't wait to see what my office looks like, but I wasn't given details on the office as part of the deal?

I have alot of positive feelings from this firm.  They all seem very nice.  They even have another New Yorker.  I only have to wear a suit when I am going mediations, trials and things like that. When I went a lot of people were business casual but I will feel that one out before I stop wearing a suit.  I went to a bunch of other intereviews and I was so unsure of the jobs after the interviews.  After the interview for this job I was hoping I would get it but I was the first person they interviewed.  I was a bit fast in saying yes, which may or may not be a good thing.  I was waiting to hear from another job as well.  They had told me they were decideing "soon" but that was 2 weeks ago so I am guessing they just didn't contact me.  They would have had a really high salery but I had some misgivings about that job.  I think it will be better in the long run to have a job I will like better, where I feel people will be helping me learn and I know there is plenty room to advance in.

So I just decided I would take this job and forget about any others that may pop up.

Anyway the article may be a little diffcult to digest but it is still really cool to me to be a published author.  Hopefully It won't just be a first.  I'll add more info on the article later if ppl are interested.

Pass!!!

There is not much to write about taking the bar exam. It was alot of hard work, it took most of the summer and now it is over.  I was successful.  Yippee. I await my liscense and getting sworn in.  Oddly I still don't have my diploma but I will be getting that soon.

I won't write all my complaints down from the process of studying and taking the bar, no point to focus on negativity so I will focus on the positives, which are that I passed.  I also need to focus on the really hard part.  Now I need a job. Yup that is all on this topic.

MY Puppies
My last entry updated everyone on my condo.   Well the other big change is me and Mike have puppies.  Yes we are parents. (I can't believe I have pets.)  At first I wasn't sure if I wanted dogs or pets of any kind but I knew Mike really wanted one so while I was studying for the Bar Exam me and Mike got a beagle.  Her name is Bonnie. She is adorable and an absolute terror.

Here she is pretending to be good and looking cute.

And here she is actually being good, I expect you notice she is asleep...

So having Bonnie as annoying she was at times made me really want a second dog.  First the two dogs can play and leave me alone but I was worried Bonnie would get lonely when me and Mike both had jobs because she was soo needy.  Plus I really love her.

Around the time I took the Bar exam Mike got a pretty good job and the week after we saw a Maltese, and we felt she needed a home so we got her.  Really it was a crazy whim but we are cut off. No more pets.  Our Maltese is named Q-tip.  At first she was going to be cotton but she was just not big enough to be cotton and therefore she ended up only a dab of cotton; a Q-tip.

Normally she is a mess. She play alot with Bonnie and well you can imagine how she looks

I wish I had a picture of this.  Me and Mike recently found out Q-tip loves jumping in muddy puddles.  Bonnie doesn't even do that.  We were taking a walk and Q-tip ran splashing through these red from clay colored mud puddles.  She was having so much fun until we were half home and she realized how cold being wet can get a 3 pound puppy. Needless to say I ended up carrying the soggy little puppy home.

This was a cute picture of both puppies sleeping. Just had to add it in.

It's been awhile -- My apartment

It has been a busy summer.  I am not even sure where to start.

The big goal for the summer were to take the bar exam and pass.  I moved to NC and began taking a bar course at UNCG.  It was arduous.  Studying all the time, getting used to a new area and unpacking.  My knick knack stuff is still a mess but my apartment is starting to look good.

Here is my living room

Entertainment center and the coffee table

The futon couch, showing the small poarch.

desk area off living room -- should be a tiny dinette, but it's not. Notice we have plants but the dogs eat them if they are too close to the floor.

Messy Kitchen: I hate the kitchen it is tooooooo small. You do anything and the place is a wreck again. I can't wait till I can have a bigger kitchen, and a dining room. That would be nice

half of messy guest room... we are trying to get rid of some of this junk. There is also a bed on the other half.. so come visit and you can stay in an actual bed.

The rest of the condo is a bath room and bedroom.  Hope you enjoyed my tour.
